JANUARY 17th 2010 Session 1 PREPARING TO EXHIBIT PART 1

This session looks considers the presentation of paintings for an exhibition. In particular there will be a demonstration
of how to cut your own mount and frame a painting yourself (using a ready made frame).
FEBRUARY 13TH 2010 Session 2
PREPARING TO EXHIBIT PART 2

This sessions reviews how to prepare a painting for
exhibition, in particular the administrative side of how to catalogue your work.
We will also looks at the ‘peripherals’ that
can be part of an exhibition, such as greetings cards and prints. We will consider the standards expected, and their potential use
in advertising your work.
MARCH 13th 2010 Session 3 HOW TO CRITIQUE ART

An
in depth look at methods of critqueing art in general, and what and how we can learn from this. How to apply this process to your
own work.
APRIL 17th 2010 Session 4 DRAWING

Consideration
of the definition of 'drawing'. The importance of observational drawing as a tool for seeing and recording The importance of good
observation in understanding your subject,
and its place in designing a painting. How to use drawing as a method of expression, whether
for its own sake or as a method of recording mood/atmosphere.
MAY 8th 2010 Session 5 COMPOSITION
VENUE:

Traditional methods of composing a picture, and its application to various painting
styles. Comparison with other methods of ordering a composition. Visual pathways - leading the eye around the picture. Focal point.
Balance of tone, shape, texture and colour. Tools to aid composition; tracing paper, computer programmes, a Golden Section viewfinder,
grids.
JUNE 12TH 2010 Session 6 TONE
VENUE: Lukesland Gardens, Harford, Ivybridge, PL21 0JF
Light and dark and
how to see it! Tone as the most important element of watercolour technique. A good painting will work in black and white as well as
it does in colour.

SEPT 18TH 2010 Session 8 TEXTURE
& MARK-MAKING

How to make watercolour paint itself! The never ending quest
to increase your range of marks and methods of applying paint to give interdt to your paintng. This session will encourage experimentation,
but also consider the relationship between this type of mark-making and drawing.
OCTOBER
9TH 2010 Session 9 COLOUR
VENUE: Lukesland Gardens, Harford, Ivybridge, PL21 0JF
Explanation of basic colour theory: primary,
secondary and tertiary colours, colour wheel, complementary/ harmonising colours, cold/warm colours. Getting to know your paints -
understanding how different pigments behave differently. Mixing colour: mixing from primary colours, mixing from secondary colours;
mixing darks.
Consideration of how colour can affect the mood of not only the painting, but the viewer. Consideration of the reasons
for palette choices before beginning to paint.
NOVEMBER 20th 2010 Session 10 PLANNING THE PROCESS OF PAINTING

The importance of planning a painting thoroughly. Methods of planning; check list of things
to consider before starting to paint. The difference thorough planning can make!

We have no 'watercolour secrets' at Moor to Sea Arts - we are happy to share with you all the tips, tricks and techniques we know.

EXTENSION SESSIONS
In addition to the workshops above there will be two ‘Extension Sessions’. These days will not have any formal
tuition, but will be an opoprtunity to continue working in the presence of your fellow artists with tutors on hand.
The fee for
these days will be £25.00.
To be eligible to attend these sessions you must have either:
- Have attended 3 or more Moor to Sea Arts
Workshops, or
- Have been enroled on a Moor to Sea Evening class for 10 or more sessions.
You will notice that these days take
place on Sundays following a circular Course workshop, giving you the chance to have a full weekend painting. It is not essential
to attend both days (note that this means you do not have to attend the Saturday the day before).
There will also be two ‘Taster
Days’ which eligible students may attend and use an an ‘Extension Session’, recognising that priority will be given to the new students
both in terms of places and tutor’s time. Depending on the number of new students we may give a discretionary discount to students
using the ‘Taster days’ as an Extension Session.

'A what?' we hear you ask!
The 'Circular Course' consists of 10 workshops spread over a 12 month period. Covering a wide range of
topics, the focus is on acquiring and developing the skills needed to achieve a high standard of watercolour painting. Each workshop
stands in its own right, but together they build to form a course that gives a strong foundation in watercolour techniques. The cycle
of 10 topics is then repeated, continuing students building on the skills developed in previous workshops. Students may join at any
point, choosing to book for just one workshop, the whole course, or just selecting the particular workshops that suit their requirements.
It is suitable for all ability levels. These workshops are mainly studio based but include excursions where appropriate.
