The 'Circular Course' consists of 10 workshops spread over a 12 month period. Covering a wide range of
topics, the focus is on acquiring and developing the skills needed to achieve a high standard of watercolour painting. Each workshop
stands in its own right, but together they build to form a course that gives a strong foundation in watercolour techniques. The cycle
of 10 topics is then repeated, continuing students building on the skills developed in previous workshops. Students may join at any
point, choosing to book for just one workshop, the whole course, or just selecting the particular workshops that suit their requirements.
It is suitable for all ability levels. These workshops are mainly studio based but include excursions where appropriate.

SESSION 6
DRAWING WITH PAINT
Saturday 27th June 2009
10.00 am - 4.30 pm
at
Moor to Sea Arts Tuition
Rob Dudley
We have no 'watercolour secrets' at Moor to Sea Arts - we are happy to share with you all the tips, tricks and techniques we know.
Moor to Sea Arts tuition is designed for you to succeed. Whatever you perceive your standard of painting to be, Rob and Si
ān are confident
that they can help you to get more from your watercolour painting, a confidence only years of qualified teaching can bring. From the
choice of paper, brushes and paints to the best way of simplifying complex subjects or the use of tone and colour, Moor to Sea arts
tuition is planned, professional and perfect for all.
"Having said that, we have a lot of fun! The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly
and we have to admit, we love teaching. It gives us a real buzz when we someone achieve more than they had thought possible, and to
share in their delight. But be warned - we're told our enthusiasm for watercolour is infectious. You might find it difficult to put
your brushes away!
Our tuition is techniques based, rather than subject based. We believe a good solid foundation of techniques allows
you to explore painting without being tied to a single subject.
In 2009 we are running the
'The Circular Course ',which is a series
of one day workshops, and regular
Evening Classes at Ivybridge Community College. From time to time we may run additional
'Art
Breaks '; please keep an eye on this page for details.
If you like the sound of our workshops but are unable to attend on the set dates,
perhaps you would like to consider a
'Private Painting Break'. "
If you are planning a painting break with a few fellow artists and like the sound of what we are offering, perhaps you might like
to consider a private painting holiday.
As well as being able to arrange dates to suit, we would be happy to discuss your
requirements in terms of subject matter, techniques and studio venue.
With Moor to Sea Arts you can expect a high standard
of tuition in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
If your preference is for an intense period of tuition we can provide a structured
workshop or course, the content of which is decided upon after discussing your requirements and ability. Some folk would prefer
a more relaxed approach, incorporating watercolour and tuition into their leisure time, or as part of a holiday. While the standard
of tuition would remain as high the approach can be much more informal.
We have a strong belief that the best paintings appear
when the artist is enthused by the subject matter. Limits on choice of subject matter will be imposed by tide, time, weather and practicalities,
not by pedantic tutors!
A typical workshop begins with an informal 'Meet & Greet' over coffee, when we talk to the
students about their hopes for the day and look at their work. A typical day may include demonstrations, an informal talk on the technical
focus of the day and relevant exercises. If weather, tides and student interests permit we may include excursions.
Whichever watercolour techniques have been chosen we do not study these in isolation, but make constant references to other technical
elemensts of painting and how they work together in the context of a painting. All our workshops are designed to be very
flexible, and, as far as possible working within the constraints of a group, we will try to adapt the workshops to individual
wishes.
If you would like to come to Iybridge you could take advantage of our local knowledge of beauty spots, beaches
and taverns in planning excursions. The area is particularly well suited to rural landscapes, including moorland, rivers, coastal
and beach scenes, seascapes, skies and the flora and fauna of the famous Devon hedges. We have plenty of inspirational ideas
for you, but if you would like to bring your own reference material to work from, thats OK too.
We are able to book Lukesland Gardens
(subject to availability). We will consider alternatives depending upon the practicalities of the available studio space;
for example, some holiday cottages have wonderful kitchens. We are happy to help you find accommodation locally.
We are also happy
to explore an alternative location, and would be prepared to discuss us travelling to you.
Costs will vary according to your
requirements. There is a minimum tuition fee of £160 per tutor per day up to a maximum of 8 students per tutor. Additional
costs would be incurred where applicable e.g. materials, studio rent, lunch and refreshments, travel expenses, accommodation.
