Art Breaks in 2019

Sometimes it is nice to get away for a few days and

think about nothing other than painting...bliss!

Doing this with encouraging tutors, amongst like minded artists can greatly enhance the experience, leaving you to go home with fresh inspiration for new subject matter, techniques or new materials to try....maybe even new friends!

We thoroughly enjoy tutoring on art breaks. The atmosphere is relaxed, the enthusiasm for painting is infectious, and the locations very inspiring. You can be assured of a warm welcome, comfortable accommodation and lovely food.

The art breaks we have chosen to do in the UK in 2019  are organised  the Field Studies Council, and Alpha Painting Holidays. You will find full details on their websites, but if you would like to contact us directly before booking we are more than happy to answer your queries about the painting that you can expect to be doing.

Watercolour Tips, Tricks and Techniques

Mon 22 July - Fri 26 July 2019

Tutors: Siân and Rob

These courses involve a combination of studio based teaching with excursions into the wonderful scenery of the South Hams. Both courses allow a great deal of flexibility, taking advantage of great weather and the play of light over the landscape to go out, or making use of the convenience of the studio for teaching technical skills. Wherever we are, you will be given plentiful advice on ways to enjoy and improve your painting!

Situated within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the Field Studies Centre at Slapton is in an ideal location for art based breaks! The centre is within walking distance of Slapton Ley, an inspirational freshwater lake. Just a few yards further on is Slapton Sands, a long shingle beach with stunning views of Start Bay. Slapton village is gorgeous, with a potential painting around very corner. The South Hams affords many opportunities for inspirational sketching trips; rolling hills of countryside, rivers, estuaries, miles of unspoilt coastline, cliff top walks, green lanes, picturesque villages and hamlets.

The following courses are based at the Field Studies Council centre at Flatford Mill. Flatford Mill was owned by the family of John Constable's. It is where he grew up, and painted one of his most famous paintings, 'The Hay Wain'. On these art holidays you get the chance to stand on the very spot he stood to paint this famous work, to make your own sketches and paintings of this beautiful scene.  Short walks around the mill will take you to other locations he painted in. The atmosphere of creativity on these art breaks is enhanced by this very real sense of the history of painting. Valley Farm was also owned by members of the Constable family; accommodation for your art break may be in one of these buildings!

JANUARY 2020

In January 2020 we will be repeating the very successful course ‘Art Detox Week’, which ran for the first time this year (2019). It was a terrific week, relaxed and a lot of fun, a perfect antidote to the excesses of the Christmas period, and an excellent start to inartistic 2019. This course will be advertised in the autumn, but if you think you might be interested contact John Blair, head of centre at Flatford Mill FSC.

Paint North Cornwall Harbours & Rugged Coast

Tutor: Rob Dudley

Monday 10 June - Thursday 13 June 2019

Rob will be tutoring on an art holiday run by Alpha Painting Holidays. The inspiration for paintings will be the pretty harbour towns of North Cornwall, and the Cornish coastline. Rob will share his knowledge of how to capture the amazing effects of water, light and reflections, encouraging you to make your own paintings along the way. For more information and to book visit Rob’s page on the Alpha Painting Holidays website.

PRIVATE ART TUITION ON HOLIDAY

Maybe you are going on holiday to the Devon, Cornwall or Somerset, and like the idea of incorporating a few days painting with the guidance of an experienced art tutor. As well as being able to arrange dates to suit, we would be happy to discuss your requirement in terms of subject matter, techniques and venue. If this idea appeals to you give Rob or Siân a call to discuss the feasibility and cost of what you have in mind.
