WEEK 3 : Free painting
7th & 8th February
Tutor : Rob
What to Bring:
Bring your normal painting kit, some paper to sketch on and a pencil, preferably a 2B.
Book of the week
One of my favourite painters is the late Norman Battershill. A watercolourist, oil and acrylic painter. As a teenager I always enjoyed his articles for The Artist magazine. He made a lot of sense, and indeed still does. He wrote many books and the one I would like to share with you is one that he wrote in 1977, ‘Light on the Landscape’. Full of sound, painterly advice; and some lovely paintings. Although a book with few full colour illustrations they are full of sketches that are amongst some of the finest ’thumbnails’ I’ve seen. Little gems, full of useful information.
Quote of the week
‘Turns out my natural talent was actually practice’
Sadly I have been unable to find the source of the quote, if anyone knows please let us know as we would be only too happy to credit the author for this insightful comment.
THE LITTLE CHALLENGE
Here’s a larger version of this weeks image for you to study in detail. Try to work out how the paint was applied and, if you can, the order it was applied in.
