WEEK 4 : tutor led
14th & 15th February
Tutor : Rob & Siân
WHAT TO BRING
This week we are looking at the various ways you can make marks in watercolour without using brushes. please bring anything you might think is suitable!
We are also going to look at watercolour media, i.e. stuff you can mix with watercolour to alter it’s properties, e.g. texture medium, lifting preparation, granulation medium. Again, if you ave anything you have tried and would like to show, please bring it along.
Book of the week
The Encyclopaedia of Painting techniques by Elizabeth Tate.
This book that gives you plenty of ideas for different ways of applying paint. It’s quite comprehensive, covering other media too, but plenty of scope for encouraging experimentation!
We’d also like to remind you of a book we recommended last term:
Quote of the Week
Rob follows Hazel Soon on Facebook, and this week she posted that she has this quote oner studio wall. It is by Aeschylus, a Greek writer. Although not directly about art, we feel it is highly appropriate for our classes!
To learn is to be young, however old.
THE LITTLE CHALLENGE
Here’s a larger version of this weeks image for you to study in detail. Try to work out how the paint was applied and, if you can, the order it was applied in.
