Class Members Week 7

 WEEK 7  : tutor led

7th & 8th March

Tutor : Siân & Rob

what to bring

This week we are taking a look at other waterbased ‘wet’ media : acrylic, acrylic inks and water-mixable oils. We will also include water-mixable oil crayons (not pencils).

If you have any of these, please bring them along. We don’t expect you to share them, but it will help to give us an insight to how much there is to choose from, and it would be useful to hear your opinion/review of them. It would also be useful if you are able to bring any different supports ( paper, cards etc) and palettes that you might use with them, as these are designed differently to watercolour palettes. Please don’t bring more than you can comfortably carry - these media seem to be more difficult to transport than watercolour equipment.

NOTE: We will be bringing some media for you to have a little try. Wear old clothes, a smock or an apron! These media are more difficult if not impossible to remove from clothing.

QUOte OF THE WeeK

Book of the week

This week we have chosen Breaking the Rules of Watercolour by Shirley Trevena .

Shirley Trevena’s paintings are are full of colour and energy.

If you are looking for inspiration to try out different textures and styles, you will find Shirley Trevena’s books very useful. She has a very experimental approach!

In this book she includes the use of other waterbased media that can be used with watercolour - maybe not the full range we are looking at this week, but it’s a start :)

THE LITTLE CHALLENGE

Here’s a larger version of this weeks image for you to study in detail. Try to work out how the paint was applied and, if you can, the order it was applied in.
