tomatoes and Basil
As I am about to set up the allotment for the summer this painting jumped out at me.
This painting was as much about colour and tone as it was about the subject matter. I decided what it was I liked about the subject and then designed the painting to emphasise those elements.
I really like the very delicate shade of green in the basil stems: how could I show that on white paper? By setting them against a dark background!
The complimentary colours give vibrancy to the painting. But note too how I balanced the colours across the image.
