Your usual painting materials.
IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR WEDNESDAY !!
We have been informed that unfortunately there will be no water in Blachford Road from 10.00am Wednesday morning. We have decided to go ahead and run the class. Please bring your own flasks of coffee etc if you would like a hot drink. We will bring cold drinks.
Please could you also bring your own water to use for painting; we will take some but probably cannot bring enough for everyone. We will bring a bucket to dispose of dirty water outside to avoid contaminating the kitchen sink without being able to wash it.
TOILETS : there will be no toilet facilities this week. The nearest public toilet are in the car park the other side of Glanvilles Mill ( about a 5 minute walk). Anyone who would like to pop to our house at the end of the session to use our toilet before travelling home is welcome.

TIPS
1 Look at the coloured image.
Break down the image into areas of light, mid and dark colours. Where are the lightest colours? Where are the darkest colours? Where are the colours in between?
2 NOW look at the B & W versions ( Scroll through the gallery using the arrows at the side of the picture)
Break down the image into areas of light, mid and dark tones. Where are the lightest lights? Where are the darkest darks? Where are the mid-tones?
3 Now ask yourself these questions:
Where are the darkest dark tones? Are they in the same place as the darkest colours?
Where are the lightest light tones? Are the highlights in the same place as the lightest colours?
Where are the mid-tones? Does their placement in the picture match where you bought the mid-colours were?
When you first look at the picture, are you aware of whether your eye is drawn first to the lights, the darks or somewhere in between?
Did you eye follow the same path across the image in the three different versions?
Were there areas where what you perceived to be two distinct colours merged into one patch where viewed in B & W?
Were hard edges in colour that became soft edges when looked tonally?
TOPIC of the Week
Recap of the topic of the term : what thoughts and/or questions do you have after looking at this complicated topic this term?
Quote of the week
As I work at my drawings, day after day, what seemed unattainable before is now gradually becoming possible. Slowly, I'm learning to observe and measure. I don't stand quite so helpless before nature any longer.

And now for something completely different…
This one has to be experienced. It is a whole new way of experiencing artworks, and worth every penny and ounce of effort getting there. Even Rob liked it, and he is so traditional he is almost a dinosaur. An arteosaurus, in fact.
We visited the David Hockney show, and were absolutely blown away by it. ‘The Moon walkers: A Journey with Tom Hanks’ later in the year looks exciting; plenty of time to book.
No more to be said. Go.
