SUMMER Term week 3
Date: 30th April & 1st May
Tutor: Sian
Free Painting
what to bring
Bring along your usual painting materialsand anything you are currently working on. It will be useful to bring your sketchpad each week this term.
weekly sketching challenge
Practise using the Clock Method to make a drawing of a subject of your choice. You could find a suitable subject from life or use a photograph. You won’t have the acetate sheets with you that you have used in class, so it is an opportunity to put this into practise. The beauty of this particular approach lies in its universal appeal, as we are each of us able to easily visualize a traditional analogue clock face, rendering the acetate sheet unnecessary.
THIS Week:
As a short introduction this week Siân will review the “Clock Method’ of drawing that Rob introduced last week, and demonstrate how to use it with photographs. The remainder of the session will be free painting.
Please take a few moments to check out the new notices in the Class Members Notice Board this week.
Quote of the week
“I am interested in art as a means of living a life, not as a means of making a living.”
Robert Henri ( American painter and teacher).
ArTIST of the week
John Blockley
John Blockley’s watercolours were genuinely innovative in his use of a variety of techniques to apply paint to the paper. These were underpinned with strong, confident drawings. His powers of observation and accuracy of execution allowed him the freedom to experiment with the paint, knowing that the apparently loose and free images were supported by a thorough understanding of his subject matter.
Many of his drawings are displayed in the book
The 2 drawings shown here feature in the book. Take a moment to consider how aware he was of the relationships between the various elements in the drawing!
