What we saw…
Craig Underhill ceramic piece.
Craig Underhill is a ceramacist whose work is very definitely based on his observation of the landscape. This week at the Bovey Tracy Craft Fair we treated ourselves to a piece of his work. He is truly inspiring, both as an artist and as a teacher.
Craig’s achieves his aims for his artwork in spades (see quote below). Although tending towards abstraction his observation of the landscape, and hence his connection to it, comes through in spades. We suggest you visit his website, and follow through to both his Instagram and Facebook pages, in particular the links through to “Walk and Look’ and ‘Sketchbook’ on Instagram.
“A recurring and principal foundation in my work that remains as strong as ever, is the need to express something about my immediate surroundings and the landscape that I live in. I want my work to evoke a feeling of place and landscape without being over representational.”
