This week’s book is not so much for those who would wear an artists smock… it would be more of an artist’s anorak.
For the true geeks amongst you, we present
‘The Wilcox guide to the Finest Watercolour Paints’
Yes, we own a copy. No, we haven’t read it cover to cover. But we are glad we own a copy, for those moments when we feel the need to don our artistic anoraks and look up some obscure fact about a colour you’ve never heard of, or one of those you have.
In truth it is a fascinating read. Wilcox has documented information on both pigments and the variations produced by different manufacturers. He has even managed to do this is an accessible way. Check out the photo of the sample page below.
No, Wilcox did not ask to have this information printed on a blue page. This is another example of how a digital camera will alter the colours in a photograph to what it thinks we should see, not what is actually there. The background to the page is actually white; it seemed apt to leave it blue for this week though!
