what to bring

If you are able to carry one, please bring stretched paper. A watercolour block would be OK. You will be able to do his weeks exercise without stretched paper, but it will be easier on stretched paper.

You will find instructions for how to stretch paper here:

How to Stretch Watercolour Paper

You will need all your usual painting materials. You may also need masking fluid and masking tape.

It will also be useful to bring along an image of a watercolour painting that you particularly admire. An image on your iPad, tablet or phone is fine, perhaps even better than printed.

TOPIC of the Week:

“How have they done that?”

This week we will be looking at a way of using reference material to improve your watercolour skills. We will be considering how to ‘read’ a painting to work out how it was executed.

Rob has just discovered a short video of the artist Ian Sidaway’s studio posted by The Royal of Painters in Watercolour that might be of interest. This is the artist that we are looking at in class this week.
