what to bring
your usual painting materials, your current project, and any contributions you wish to make to the Paint Swap/Sale
THIS Week: paint swap/sale.
D you have any colours you know you will never use? A colour you might like like might be someone else’s favourite. Bring any tubes you no longer want along to class. Before bringing them
Mark the tubes with your name. You could stick a piece of masking fluid on the tube with your name on
Mark the tube with either an amount you would like. Don’t be too British, it might be nice to get a contribution to the paint you will buy instead; you could check typical prices on eBay
Mark as ‘Free’ if you are happy that someone else will use it rather that it sit drying up in your box.
We could take the collected tubes to the other classes and return the unclaimed tubes in the last class of term.
colour of the Week
BLACK
From “The Secret Lives of Colour’ page 261
“What do you think of when you see the colour black? Perhaps a better question would be: what don’t you think of when you see black? Few colours are more expansive and capacious. Like the dark obsidian mirror that once belonged to Dr Dee, look into black and you never know what might look back. It is simultaneously the colour of fashion and of mourning, and has symbolised everything from fertility to scholarship and piety. With black things are always complicated.’
‘homework’ challenge
Have think about the paint mixes that you use regularly. Do you have a favourite?
It is no secret that we both love … do I even need to type it… French ultramarine and Burnt Sienna!
Next week in class we will be asking you for your favourite mix, and collating all your ideas. We will then display them next week (last class of term) so that you can consider any mix ideas that your fellow artists use, and maybe give them a try during theEaster break.
