It’s Christmas!!

Well, OK, not just yet, but every year, by the time we think about having a “Barbie Session’ using glitter ‘n stuff, those of you who have make your Christmas cards have probably already posted them. So this year I thought I’d get in a little earlier, with a Christmas video made when we were working with Art Tutor. Remember, despite this term’s fairly serious theme, to have some fun!!

Sorry folks, I have had to remove this video. We have limited video storage on the site and I need to use the space this one took elsewhere. if you are here reading tis and want to see the video please let me know and I’ll see what I can do. Siân

weekly sketching challenge

This week, try sketching with paint! Get you paints out and practise techniques that you might use to create the textures of a Christmas tree. What else could it be this week :) ?

The examples in the video are just that, examples, so please feel free to share in class any ideas you come up with that are not included in the video!

“Hunters in the Snow’ Oil on board. Bruegel the Elder

Pieter Bruegel The Elder

This painting ‘Hunters in the Snow’ is one of our favourite paintings. We were lucky enough to see it in History Museum in Vienna ( Kunst Historisches Museum Wien ) a number of years ago.

Pieter Bruegel the Elder (c. 1525–1530 – 9 September 1569) was amongst the best known of the Dutch and Flemish renaissance painters. He painted landscapes and peasant scenes. Seeing his work it was the latter that we found intriguing. The incredible level of detail was awe inspiring, but it was his sense of humour that brought the smiles to our faces. Tiny little scenes within the enormous paintings telling the stories of the peasants lives were full of fun! When you research his paintings take the time to study the detail.

To read more about the featured painting by Bruegel The Elder visit ‘Hunters in the Snow’.
