what to bring

In addition to your usual materials, please bring along the swatches we made in the last tutor led session, and any old paintings that you were not happy with.

THIS Week:

We will continue to look at techniques for laying down paint, e.g. layering and creating soft edges. We will be using the swatches to practise , then using your ‘failed’ paintings to apply the techniques to make corrections. We are looking forward to repairing cauliflowers, so please bring with you the ones we created in the last Tutor Led session :)

important CLASS NOTICE

Please do take a look at Moor to Sea Arts Arty Stuff on Facebook, as we have updated the rules, with a view to including those who subscribe to our video pages (imminent launch now!). We are aware that not many of you use it, and some of you might not even be aware it is there. Vicky Wilkinson (Wednesday morning group) has kindly agreed to help us keep this page a safe environment for sharing your artwork; she is now a moderator of the group. Thank you Vicky.

A Little treat

I had a bit of fun last week painting some daffs. On Wednesday Frank decided to video me playing with paint, then I had some fun playing with iMovie…

Great filming Frank!

colour of the Week

Violet

This one is fun!

Click on the image to enlarge it so that you can read the text.

So, what colour are shadows?

‘homework’ challenge

Stand and stare!

Be honest with yourself. Do you really stand and stare? For how long? Less than a minute? More than five minutes? We mean proper staring, at one subject. How much visual information do you really take in?

You ‘homework’ this week is to stop, stand and stare at anything that catches your eye. Really look at it. You might even try timing yourself.

Since the theme of this term is colour, if you need something to focus on to hone your staring skills, look at how whether a shadow changes the colour of your subject. is it a change in colour, or simply a change in tone?

ArTIST of the week

Monet ‘Impression, Sunrise’

Impressionism and all that violet.

This week take a virtual trip to the National Gallery, and follow their tour

‘Impressionism and Beyond’

This self-guided short tour will take you on a journey from the French countryside to the streets of Paris and showcases 5 examples of impressionist art by masters such as Cézanne, Degas, and Monet.

Clicking on the links lower down the national gallery page takes you to a short biography of the artists, and examples of their work.

Do you are with Louis Leroy’s accusation that Monet’s ‘Impression, Sunrise’ was not a finished painting at all, but a meeting preparatory sketch?
