what to bring
At least one image of a painting by an artist who has inspired you to paint. So not just an artist whose work you like, but one who has inspired you to pick up you brushes and paint. The image(s) can be on your iPad, tablet , printed in a magazine or book; images on your phone only as a last resort as we will be discussing these images in class and others will need to be able to see them.
Also bring :
note pad or pages in your sketch pad for note making.
sketching paper and pencils
watercolour paper (no need to stretch)
some paints and brushes.
THIS Week:
This week we will be discussing the images you have brought in, and why they have inspired you. You might like to take another look at the tutor Led notes for the first tutor led session this term to remind you:
image of the Week
Garrowby Hill, David Hockney
Two artists that have inspired us to paint. Discussion in class!
weekly sketching challenge
Choose an object that is not too complicated. Stare at it for a while e.g. 5 minutes, taking in as many details as you can. Look carefully, you will be drawing it!
After 5 minutes or so turn your back on it, or go to another room ( don’t move it, the light will change). Draw it from memory!
When you have finished your drawing take you sketch and go back to the drawing. Compare what you are looking at with what you drew.
How much did you remember/notice/ not notice? What des this tell you about you observational skills?
