Tips during the SHAF Arts Trail '25
Once upon a time I was chatting away on the phone and fiddling with bits of paper on the table in front of me. One of them had a hole in it, made with the office hole punch. I realised that by peering through the hole with one eye closed I could easily assess the tones of the things around me. The Tonal Indicator Tool was born! Goodness knows what the phone call was about; apologies are probably still due to the person at the other end.
While preparing for our Open Studios Event I came across one of the originals, although now rather tatty, T.IT.s. The hole still works though!
A newer Tonal Indicator Tool; the well used original really is quite tatty!
People who have attended our art classes over the years have found this method of assessing tone to be extremely useful, easier than the more traditional methods of peeping through your eyelashes, or through a tunnel made with your hand. It’s just a hole in a piece of paper. Do give it a try, you may also find it really helpful.
If you are in our area do pop in and see us during the Arts Trail
We’d be happy to demonstrate the T.I.T!
For those of you sadly unable to come and see us this time I have just added an article ‘How to See Tone’ to our website. I hope you find it useful!
